The Frank Lloyd Wright Quarterly is a magazine sent to members of the Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation and sold at other Wright Sites. I worked as a member of the Foundation’s Communications team to restructure the magazine’s content and expand its breadth and depth with the long-term goal of expanding the magazine’s reach beyond membership and increasing readership.



Improving the Quarterly

The Quarterly was previously structured primarily as a Foundation newsletter that was sent as a membership benefit. It showcased images from the Frank Lloyd Wright Archives and included one extended length feature article, Foundation news briefs, a calendar of events, and an index of Wright Sites open to the public.

The expanded magazine is restructured to be more multi-dimensional, offering features on a variety of topics of interest to the broader architecture community as well as "Wright-o-philes." The content is split into 3 sections; News, Features, and Reference.  


News: 
A collection of short and timely stories of interest to readers and a calendar of upcoming events for the next 3 months.




Features:
1 extended length article and 2 shorter articles. This expansion allows for a wide range of topics to be covered in a single issue. In addition, the features section includes a recurring interview with a notable figure beyond the Foundation's membership and immediate community. This article purposely reaches beyond membership and offers insights on how Wright’s body of work is relevant and has an impact on people today.



Reference:
Every issue includes an index of all Wright Sites open to the public. Although the index was alphabetical, the organizational structure and hierarchy of information was not appropriate for the content, making it hard for readers to engage with the information.

I redesigned the section to give this large index better hierarchy, making the content more engaging and the detailed information easier to access. The sites are grouped by region, and then listed alphabetically by state, with appropriate contact information directing readers where they need to go to learn more. The large amount of text is broken up by images of highlighted Wright Sites that change with each issue.
