Spitshine
Author: Anne Marie Rooney
Poetry, 2012

At the author’s request, the cover features a still photo from performance art by Marina Abramovic. The cover design highlights the character of the poetry; striking, bold, brazen, and mischevous.

Oregon
Author: Henry Carlile
Poetry, 2013

The cover design portrays the mysterious, sullen, and nostalgic qualities of Carlile’s writing. The book is a collection of poems about experiences of hardship and uncertainty living in the Pacific Northwest.

I designed the interior layout with a simple, but strict grid setting a consistent rhythm for the whole collection while allowing ample space for each poem with generous margins and leading.

The Words I Chose
Author: Wesley McNair
Memoir, 2012

This memoir tells the story of the author growing up in poverty and a broken home and overcoming hardship to become an accomplished writer. By request, the cover features a photo of the author’s childhood home. For the cover design I created a simple frame as a holding shape for the title which references the many polaroid pictures included in the book. The horizontal lines reference ruled paper used by the writer and help frame the title and book description as well as connect the front and back sides of the cover.
